Check Me Out On Twitter!

Hey Ladies N’ Gents,

I just signed up for twitter after some prompting from a few who are far more advanced than I.

I must say though, I didn’t join up just to get more traffic and what not. I signed up because it’s a cool concept. The first few people who had sent me twitter messages as soon as I logged in were marketers saying “check this out” and “check that out.” I have a feeling the twitter crowd won’t treat them as well as they may expect.

It’s about sharing what YOU are doing with people who care about YOU & the information you’re distributing had better be valuable. When you start spamming your Twitter followers with nudges to check out your wares you’re bringing the whole atmosphere down.

Twitter something useful like whether or not you’re dog enjoyed her new rawhide bone on the expensive rug. Or, tell your followers what is really on your mind.

Linking to a new blog post or talking about developments on a website are a great way to drive some traffic from Twitter to your site, but it’s going to have to be tasteful & valuable or you’re going to turn people against you and fast!

Using Twitter as the valuable tool that it is fast becoming is one thing, but abusing the site & the members is a great way to get yourself recognized as nothing more than an annoyance.

The reason I say all this is because within seconds of first signing up I noticed a few marketers who are approaching this new platform entirely wrong.  Every tweet they are making is encouragement to check out a web page selling something or proposing something…

That’s like if you walked around all day and told everyone you met to buy something from you.  People won’t take to that very well, not in person, and not on Twitter.

Anyways, that is my blog rant for the day.

I hope twitter doesn’t become another place for blind internet marketers to lead other blind internet marketers, know what I mean?

There will surely be more to come on the topic of Twitter in the near future as I’m engrossed by this new idea & the potential here.
