UAW Local 3303
This project entailed an engaging and user-friendly website for the United Auto Workers Local 3303 union members, based in Butler, PA.

The client wanted a user-friendly admin panel so she could manage and update the site frequently and on her own.

The team analyzed the requirements and suggested a highly customized WordPress site along with some basic telephone coaching on the fundamentals of WordPress.

At present day the site is quickly growing and serves as a primary method of disseminating information to the proud & dedicated members of the UAW Local 3303.

• Professional, intuitive, user-friendly, & engaging design
• Easily & effectively communicate essential information to organization members
• Secure “member’s only” area for sharing sensitive information with hand-verified Local 3303 members
• This website and the webmaster, Donna Weckerly, were the recipients of numerous awards at the 2011 Local Union Press Association (LUPA) Communications Conference

UAW Local 3303Yeah… perfect! Thanks. Love the site!!!!! I am getting a lot of compliments about the overall appearance and ease of the website.

I can’t say enough about the excellent and professional work that Chris Vendilli has done on our website. He took an average website and transformed it into an appealing and very informative website!

Both the designer and programmer listened to my suggestions and developed a website that met my many needs. I highly recommend that you use ProFromGo to build your website.

Excellence in Communication Contest Winners

The purpose of the UAW-LUPA Excellence in Communication Contests is to recognize UAW local unions that have achieved outstanding labor communication in 2010 utilizing print, websites, photography, social media and video. It is also a way to recognize and applaud the hard work of local union communicators.

1. Website Contest

Category 1: General Excellence

First Place: Local 3303

Communicator: Donna Weckerly

URL: uawlocal3303.org

Especially considering that this is not a huge local, the Local 3303 website is exceptional. Small things to like: Retirement wishes to members who end their working careers that month; complete contact info for local officers, the regional office and benefits info. Big things to like: Frequently updated news about the local; upcoming events on the home page supplemented by a complete color-coded calendar inside. Local 3303 Recording Secretary Donna Weckerly clearly gets what she is doing, and that is reflected in this fine service to her members.

2. Website Contest

Category 3: Best Workplace Coverage

Third Place: Local 3303

Communicator: Donna Weckerly

URL: uawlocal3303.org

Local 3303 does a good job of keeping workplace issues in the forefront with frequent updates on local and national issues in its news section and the posting of its local newsletter.

3. Website Contest

Category 4: Best Use of Original Photos or Graphics

Third Place: Local 3303

Communicator: Donna Weckerly

URL: uawlocal3303.org

Donna Weckerly updates the Local 3303 photo gallery regularly with fine pictures of both local and national events of importance to working people. We would like to see captions that identify union members pictured in local actions.

4. Social Media Contest

Category 1: Best Use of a Facebook Page

Second Place: Western PA CAP Council

URL: http://www.facebook.com/pages/UAW-Western-PA-CAP-Council/176148925729460

Communicator: Donna Weckerly

The UAW Western Pennsylvania CAP Council Facebook page addresses a host of progressive issues: Midwestern state politics, legislative voting records, disability rights, Michael Moore, right-wing commentators, foreign trade and union label to name just a few. They get good feedback, and the feeling is that there is a lot of upside for this page.

5. Social Media Contest

Category 3: Best Use of a Twitter Account

First Place: Local 3303

URL: http://twitter.com/uawlocal3303

Communicator: Donna Weckerly

Local 3303 clearly keeps up on current events – particularly those concerning the local union, workplace issues in general and the community. It‘s a good feed to follow for any labor activist, particularly those concerned with UAW happenings.

6. Social Media Contest

Category 3: Best Use of a Twitter Account

Third Place: Western PA CAP Council

URL: http://twitter.com/UAWWesternPACAP

Communicator: Donna Weckerly

This Twitter page did not get going until late November, but seems to be growing. Like its Facebook counterpart, there are a variety of issues in play – all of them relevant to the workers of the area and most of them important to all American workers. There were 41 followers by mid-April.

Congratulations to our Local for providing updates and clear communication to our members as well as working people everywhere!
