My VOW To "Put It All On The Table" For You…
I’m looking at some of my aweber stats for recent mailings I’ve done for my email subscribers and they’re honestly nothing short of disgusting and appalling. I’ve made a resolution to myself to seriously just “put it all on the table” for my subscribers.
There’s a few confounding variables in my email marketing equation and instead of tinkering with them any more I’m going to try and get outside of my comfort zone in the next few weeks and totally remove these “variables” altogether by consolidating my lists, eliminating any confusion as to who is subscribed, how they got there, and why… and also try to more clearly establish my own “voice” so my readers can relate to me a little bit better and digest the helpful stuff I’m puttin’ down.
I think I’m a little bit different than some of your run of the mill marketing geeks but at the same time, I can hold my own when it comes to knowledge in this niche. I want to start building my own little cult following, which is really the goal of most marketers but until now, I really haven’t given it a good effort.
It sounds funny, I know, to say you want to build a following of excited subscribers but isn’t that really the point of all this?
To date, I think my biggest mistake is that I haven’t been “real” with those who are following me, friending me, subscribing to me, and whatever else you want to call it when it comes to my email campaigns and my social networking campaigns (the social networking stuff I’ve been doing isn’t even really what I’d consider a campaign per se, more or less me just putt putting around and building up some like-minded contacts).
So to get things started off with a bang I’m posting up a screenshot of my aweber account, highlighting where I stand at present and some of the stats that make me want to puke..
Below you’ll notice my total subscribers, which I aim to drastically increase over the next couple months, along with my excessively high complaint rate… This rate is basically derived from all the people who are on my list and just leave my messages chillin’ in their junk mail folders – which is pretty much due to me not mailing enough, not being “interesting,” and not “keepin’ it real.”
So here’s a dose of reality:

And some outright frightening stats:

So yeah we all know most marketers wouldn’t take the time to publicly embarrass themselves with laughable stats & insider snapshots from their aweber account… but as part of my new vow to “Put It All On The Table For You” I wanted to show you what we’re working with here…
My list is a great asset and don’t get me wrong, it’s making me MONEY. The problem I fully realize is that it’s not making me anywhere NEAR the amount of money that it should… and for good reason. Mainly, because I forgot for a long time that the main point of having a list isn’t just so you can pound them with campaigns & offers to make money, but also so you can “keep it real” and provide valuable information & resources to subscribers who have indicated they’re interested in what you have to offer & say.
I want to get it all back on track and over the course of the next couple weeks I plan on doing so. I’m not quite sure how exactly I’m going to go about it but if you’re on my list you’ll get to see it all unfold as I rekindle the relationships with my subscribers that I ignorantly let grow cold. Not just because I want to make more money from my list, but also because I realize there’s a person on the other end of every email I send out and it’s time I get my subscribers excited about the stuff I’m putting out there for them…
We all know that at the end of the day we do these things to pay the bills and buy cool sh*t… while we’re “keepin’ it real” let’s not b.s. each other… but there’s ways to go about it so that everyone is happy and it’s all done tactfully and with style & taste. I haven’t been doing that and this is my attempt at fixing it…
Hope this is something you see as being commendable and I’m gonna conclude by saying I’m looking forward to what the future holds for my small close-knit community of subscribers & friends in this industry. I’m boxing out my own tiny corner & building a little following where we can share advice & ideas freely when it comes to making that green online, so I hope you’re on board.
That’s it for now… watch out for some wicked curveballs coming into your inbox from me as I try to mix things up a bit with my subscribers.
Peace & Chicken Grease,
-Chris
