Great Free Script For Hover Pop Up Boxes!
I don’t ordinarily just post an entry about a script unless it’s something I really like… but I found a good one this time and darn it, I’m blogging about it!
This script is easy to install, and has a lot of potential in the right hands. You can find the script at the following link:
http://orangoo.com/labs/GreyBox/
This script is 100% free for anyone to use on their website and there’s a lot of possibilities here for marketers. One thing I love about the script is now you can put all the links that Google and the other Search Engines like to see at the bottom of your squeeze pages & sales pages, without giving visitors an option to exit.
Let me explain a little better . . .
It’s been known now for some time that the search engines prefer links at the bottom of your pages with things like “Privacy Policy | Terms Of Use | Disclaimer | Terms of Service” and etc. The only problem is that when you add those links to the bottom of your sales page or squeeze page, you’re giving your visitors one more chance to escape without taking the desired action.
Using this free script from Orangoo, you can continue to include these links and when someone clicks on them, instead of being taken away to a new page, or having the page open in a new window entirely, they will see an attractive hover box that displays only the information they are searching for, and will be returned to the previous page upon being closed.
You can see it in action on a site we’re currently working on by visiting www.TwitterHints.com – once you get there scroll to the bottom of the page and click on any of the links in the footer and you’ll see the script in action.
I’m sure you’ll be able to think of lots of opportunities for using this neat little script. I really enjoy it and I’m using it on a few of my own sites here and there.
You can also integrate the script with WordPress but it’s a little tricky. I followed the instructions for WordPress integration verbatim and the script acts a little glitchy at times, working fine on some browsers and being disobedient on others… I know it’s a minor problem that any decent programmer you could find on Elance or ScriptLance would probably fix for $20 or so… but I thought I’d mention the WordPress issues since it’s the only drawback I’ve experienced with the script so far, and it’s a very minor one at that!
