I’m glad that userscript I wrote so long ago has helped some people. (It apparently has been installed about 13,846 times!) As Mitch mentioned, Firefox (version 3 and up) is now able to provide nearly the same functionality, on its own, so there isn’t really a need for Mailto 2 Webmail anymore. They do it a little differently, though, so I might update the old Mailto 2 Webmail script to make it easier to use/configure, and make it a little more useful.

What a relief to be able to click and open Gmail – I haven’t used Outlook in years – and when I made the mistake [often] of clicking an email link, I would just wait for Outlook to open and then copy paste bla bla

This option is available through the Firefox options without having to invoke GreaseMonkey.

1.) Go to Tools | Options… and cliick on the Applications tab.
2.) Locate mailto: among the list of applications and to the right of it, under Actions, select “use Gmail” from the dropdown selection box.

If this doesn’t work for you, it may be that I’ve added something to my Firefox plugins along the way that I’ve forgotten about; so I apologize if that’s the case.

I’m sure the GreaseMonkey/Mailto 2 Webmail configuration is just great, but I couldn’t help but think that I didn’t go through that much to get mine to work.

Hope that’s helpful. Now your readers have two ways to do it.
